This page provides working information on the development of the HEC inventory. The purpose of the inventory is to define and collect a standard set of information on the event lists that are being used within the HELIO system. This information will in turn be used to refactor both the HEC catalogues and the HEC GUI into a more homogenous set of information that will enhance the search capabilities and form one of the inputs into the development of the full HELIO data model and semantic mapping activities.
The input to this analysis is the currrent set of HEC catalogues provided by INAF and references supplied there in.
HELIO does not yet have a fully defined data model so the activities were aimed at collecting what was considered to be the likely set of information required for the purpose of refactoring the HEC and support for ongoing metadata standardisation work.
A simple MS Access database was created to assist in the harvesting of a consistent set of information. The organisation is shown below. The LUT_... tables can be ignored since they are only used to support selection within the forms interface. The main tables are used to hold information on each of the HEC catalogues (HELIO HEC Lists) and each of the fields within the catalogues (HELIO HEC Fields). A table has also been generated to catagorise the catalogues (HELIO HEC Category) but since a particular catalogue may fall into more than one category a join table (CategoryJoin) is used to maintain the many-to-many relationship. A similar join table has recently been added to allow particular instruments to be associated with a list. This is required where spacecraft location is important factor when assessing the observational constraints such as for insitu measurements or remote observations taken away from the Sun-Earth line (e.g. with STEREO).
Several simple form based graphical interfaces have been produced to aid the input, modification and correction of the metadata. The form is divided into three main areas corresponding to the primary tables identified above. The lefthand panel allows entry of the catalogue level metadata, the top right panel allows selection of one or more categories for the list, the lower right panel allows entry of the field information for the selected catalogue. Either the arrow buttons or the standard access navigation controls can be used to navigate the associated records in each of the panels.

(Changes in this version: Update for additional lists)
Definitions of commonly used terms are held in the Glossary Table.
Work is progressing on the renaming of fields. The Field Table now has columns for the field name and the old field name.
